"Hmmm. Sort of anti-climactic. Let's take a closer look."
That was basically my conversation with myself when I received and opened my Birchbox this month. Which is part of the reason why it has taken me so long to post about it. I just wasn't really excited about anything in it this month. (I mean, foot cream? Really?)
Here is what I got this month:
- Gena Pedi Cure Foot Treatment Cream, 2 - 0.5oz packets
- I.C.O.N. India Oil, 0.34oz bottle
- ModelCo Party Proof Matte Lipstick, 0.13oz sample in Peony
- Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream, (sample size - doesn't have size listed but my guess is it's about 0.25oz)
- Birchbox Bobby Pins, set of 2 in white with dark blue pattern
Okay, so foot cream. I'm sure I'll use it, but that isn't exactly one of the types of samples I'm really hoping to get when I receive my box. I have a tube of Burt's Bees, I have used True Blue Spa from Bath & Bodyworks in the past and honestly, foot cream just isn't a product I'm on the hunt for a "holy grail" version of. I kinda use it when I use it (which probably isn't often enough) and don't really care what brand I'm using. Sorry if that's super negative but I guess I'm just not into foot cream.
What the hell, I'm busting open one of these packets now and I'm going to try it out. Okay, first impressions: It has that sort of minty medicine smell like most other foot creams I have ever used. It's a lot creamier than I expected, not a heavy cream like some that I have used. The packed actually has a lot of product in it. (It says 0.5oz.) I'm guessing each packet is probably enough for at least 3 applications. So far, it's fine. It's not life changing or anything but maybe with daily use for awhile it could be.
The India Oil is whatever. Am I excited to try it immediately? No, not really. I have lots of samples of other oils for my hair. I'm sure I'll use this one as well when I get to it. Maybe it will be amazing.
The description of the Model Co lipstick says it's matte. The shade I got is a deep pink. I mean, I will probably use it a couple of times at most. I'm not a huge fan of matte lipsticks and deep pink isn't a shade I wear often. We will see what happens with that. I might just not use it and give it away.
Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream. I don't even know what that means. Based on the description card, it is a face cream that hydrates for up to 26 hours and repairs skin damage. That could be useful. Again, I will use it but maybe I need to look into the product a little more to actually be excited about using it. As far as I'm concerned right now (with my limited knowledge from the card included in my Birchbox) it's just another face cream.
And the Birchbox Bobby Pins. They are cute, I'm sure I'll get some use out of them. I'll have to figure out a way to wear them so that I can show off the cute pattern though. Typically when I'm sticking bobby pins in my hair, my whole goal is to make sure you can't see that there are bobby pins in my hair. These are much thicker than normal bobby pins and have a cute pattern on them, they don't want to be hidden. (And I'm also quite sure they wouldn't work the same way I normally use bobby pins.) These are not a product I would purchase or pick out normally, but maybe I can have some fun experimenting with using them in my hair anyway.
It's not that I won't use the products, I'm sure I will. It's just that I'm really not super excited about anything in my Birchbox this month. That's disappointing of course, but I know that month to month it can definitely be hit or miss. This month just happens to be a miss for me. Last month I loved the shampoo, conditioner and hair oil samples and liked the polish even though I'm still experimenting with thickness and number of coats to get it not to bubble. I still haven't tried the scrub or face powder though I need to pull both of those out and put them to use. Hopefully next month will be less of a dud for me!
