Fragrance Friday! Michael Kors Edition

Throwback Thursdays, Fragrance Fridays... who doesn't love a bit of alliteration? :)

Michael Kors Island Very Bali
(Photo from MichaelKors.com)
I wanted to talk about a fragrance I have been loving for awhile now. The fragrance is Michael Kors Island Very Bali. I first got it as a gift for Christmas in 2011, when it was brand new. I am just about to finish that first bottle, as it is more of a Summer fragrance and I haven't been wearing it consistently year round. Now that we are getting back into the Summer months, it is a favorite of mine again!

I am terrible at trying to describe fragrances but I'll do my best. It is definitely a light summery floral scent to me, but there is a hint of something a little sexier. I wear it all day but I think it would be great for a night out too. I love Jasmine so I wasn't surprised to read that there are notes of Jasmine in this fragrance. Now to let the pros describe it:

As described on the Michael Kors website:
A new destination in fragrance. Escape to the ultimate glamorous destination and lose yourself in rose petals, jasmine and hints of earthy pample wood.
Radiant. Soft. Sexy.

Bloomingdales went a bit further with their description:
Escape to Bali. Getaway to the ultimate paradise filled with sexy sunsets that melt into ocean waves and lush green palms trees that sway in the cool breeze. Lose yourself in soft, sexy musk and a brilliant, textural fusion of earthy pamplewood and dry woods, inspired by the golden rays of the sun and the wam breeze off a sparkling ocean. Island-hopping never smelled this good.

This was a limited edition fragrance. On the Michael Kors website and all of the major department stores I checked it is either not found or out of stock. However, it is still available if you look for it. Through a quick Google search I found it on Zappos.com and I have also seen it at the Cosmetic Company Store (CCO) at the Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip, WA. My guess is that other CCOs will carry it as well. I did see a listing on Amazon as well, but they hiked the price up to over $100! So definitely be wary of sellers like that. It was $65 for the 1.7oz bottle at regular price.

If you would like to purchase this fragrance, HERE it is on Zappos.com for $65 with free shipping. And if you have a CCO nearby, definitely check there first! I purchased another bottle for $52 +tax at mine.

What are some of your favorite fragrances for Summer?

Throwback Thursdays: Covergirl!

Welcome to my first Throwback Thursday!

In recent Spring cleaning, I came across a bag of some of my first makeup products I picked out for myself and used regularly at the time. When I say these are old, I mean some of them at least 15 years old from when I was in middle school. The late 90's and beyond. Why I have these still? I have no idea, however I thought it would be fun to share a few of the products I loved back then.
My freezer bag of former favorites...
Today we are looking at my old favorite Covergirl products. Nowadays, I tend to completely ignore the Covergirl section at my drugstore. Not that they are bad, I just go right for the Wet n Wild usually. I did have a few Wet n Wild products back in the day also, but those are long gone. (And Wet n Wild is far better now than they used to be.) I think back then, I went for the Covergirl products because it was the most cost effective for those of us on a budget of Christmas/Birthday money or allowance.

Covergirl products circa 1996-1999ish
First off, two Covergirl Professional Eye Enhancers. I obviously used them pretty much completely up. (Again, why I have these still? I have no idea... They're empty and apparently I'm a hoarder!) The two shades are Champagne on the left and Pink Chiffon on the right. You also gotta love the tape holding that Champagne one together. The lid cracked from me carrying it around in my backpack, so I fixed it with scotch tape. So I could keep carrying it around with me. Smart. Lol!
I loved makeup but didn't know how to do anything fancy with it, so basically in middle school and early high school when I was using these, I would apply one of the two colors all over my lid. I was able to scrape out enough to do swatches of both. (You know the makeup is old when the little sponge applicators it comes with are disintegrating. Eek!) Looking at them together now, they are actually really similar. Champagne is slightly more golden and Pink Chiffon is slightly more pink.
Covergirl Champagne and Pink Chiffon eyeshadows.
Both colors are still available, Champagne here and Pink Chiffon here on Drugstore.com.

Another absolute favorite of mine, the Covergirl Continuous Color Lipstick in Rose Quartz. Ahhh the frosty pinks... I loved this lipstick. I believe this one was even my second full size tube of it, not to mention the sample size shown in the photo too.
I even have a brand new tube of this that I got on clearance about a year ago for a couple bucks. I suppose I got the new tube for nostalgia purposes? Though I'm not sure how often I will wear it. Especially since it is still in the packaging. (Perhaps that one should be added to my bag of donate/give away makeup items...) This is still available if anyone is interested in purchasing it, here it is on CVS.com.

Lastly, the Eye Slicks Gel Eye Color pencils. I had 3 of these around that middle school to early high school time. Moondust, Purple Freeze and Pink Ice. As you can see, I used Pink Ice the most. That was the first one I had. I must have lost my eye pencil sharpener by the time I got the other two because I only used them until the tip wore down. (I sharpened them all for these photos.)
I had forgotten about the sort of cooling sensation when you apply these until I just swatched them on my hand. Kinda interesting. It doesn't last at all though, only when you first apply it.
CG Eye Slicks in Pink Ice, Purple Freeze and Moondust.
As I was swatching these, I thought "Maybe I should keep these to use as eyeshadow bases!" The white is nice and bright and that purple has a cool golden pink duochrome. But I quickly reminded myself that I need to be getting rid of stuff (especially old products!) not finding reasons to keep more things. I have a drawer full of NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils and Maybelline Color Tattoos anyway, I'm sure I can dupe these. The whole line of Eye Slicks has been discontinued, but I still see them at the Dollar Tree sometimes so if you are interested maybe you can check out a dollar store near you. Or just try out a different brand of eye crayons, such as NYX, Wet n Wild or Milani.

Well, I hope you found this at least mildly entertaining. I have a few other "sets" of old school favorites to share, including Maybelline, Revlon, Bonne Bell and a few random products. I'll try to keep up on Throwback Thursdays until I get through those. It's sort of a "What's In My Purse, circa 1999." Haha!

Have a great Thursday and don't forget to be social! :)

Zoya Celebrates Earth Day with 50% off!

That about sums it up I think. Especially when the brand is Zoya and they are running a 50% off promotion for Earth Day! This is a great deal on an excellent brand. Regular price is $8 a bottle (worth every penny in my opinion!) but right now using promo code ZOYAEARTH2013 you will get 50% off your order. The only rules with this promo are that you must order between 6-24 bottles and that all PixieDust shades are excluded. The promotion runs from today through April 26th, 2013.

The reason for this Earth Day promotion is to exchange your old, unwanted polishes for your new Big 5 Free Zoya polishes. They hope everyone who orders with this promotion will return an equal number of old polishes to Zoya to be recycled. You are not required to do this to use the promo code, but hey, why not recycle some old polish rather than throwing it away? It is for Earth Day after all. Instructions for sending the old polish are on the Zoya Blog HERE.

Notes: You still get free shipping with a $25 order using this promo code. If you spend $30 or more you'll get a free deluxe sample of Zoya's Remove+ included in your order too! I love this polish remover, it is my favorite. With my order, while regular shipping was free, I also noticed it was only $2 extra for expedited shipping, so I went ahead and did that.  I'm not sure if that is the usual cost to upgrade shipping or if maybe I had to spend a certain amout to get it for $2.

"Share the Love!"
If you don't have an account on Zoya already, consider using my Share the Love link to set one up. When you create an account using my link, you earn a free polish that you can use immediately on your first order! The free polish will be under "My Account" and then in "My Promotions" when you are logged in. When you successfully place that first order, I get a reward too: 100 points added to my account! Please & Thank you!! :)

My current Zoya collection
Choosing Colors!
There are oh so many colors to choose from! Over 300 according to the Zoya website. I rely heavily on swatches from bloggers to decide what colors I want to try when placing an order. Here are a few resources for online swatches:
Rachel Knows (This one was new to me before today, but I just used her swatches to place my order.)

For those of you that would like a couple color recommendations from me, here are a few of my favorites from my little collection. Though, after my order today I'm sure I'll have a few new favorites soon!
Zoya Harley, Rory, Sweet, Happi, Wednesday, Maya and Faye.
Interested in what colors I ordered today? Well, way too many. Because I have no self control. And a credit card. That's never a good combination. Lol! Here is what my order looked like. Don't judge me. ;-)

A brief history of my love for Zoya...
Zoya Nail Polish has quickly become my favorite brand. I first found out about the brand through some of my favorite YouTubers, MsGoldGirl and PinkSoFoxy to be exact. And this was back in 2011, which I think was before either of them were receiving complimentary polishes from Zoya to review. I made my first purchase in November of 2011 during a "Choose 2 Free" promotion. I picked out Happi and Zara. I made another order in January of 2012 during another "Choose 2 Free" promotion, adding Harley and Kissy to my collection. I realized they sell the brand at Ulta and started purchasing them there too. I have come to really love the brand, slowly replacing some older, cheaper polishes in my collection with comparable Zoya colors. The polishes come in a huge range of colors and finishes, last a long time and apply great. (At least I haven't run into one that doesn't yet.) There are some that are quite sheer, and it took me awhile to figure out that the descriptions on the Zoya website are really thorough and state the intensity of the color on a scale of 1-5. (1 = Sheer and 5 = Opaque.) Of the current collection of 21 shades I own, there are only 2-3 I don't care for as much and it is because of the sheerness, which now I know I could have avoided. Another thing I love about Zoya is all the great promotions they run and their Share the Love program. Oh yeah, and they are Big-5 free!

Happy Shopping!!
