Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Peach Kiss

Have you tried the new Maybelline Baby Lips lip balms? I absolutely love this thing. I have been using it almost every day for at least a week now and it has definitely become my new favorite lip balm. I do find that I have to reapply it somewhat often, but I still like the product. It applies a sheer peachy nude tint to the lips and smells really good. I think this is really easy to use if you are in a hurry or don't feel like wearing regular lipstick with a liner and all. I have been wearing nude lipsticks a bunch lately, and I like to keep this in my purse to use later. I don't usually bring the lipstick I used with me, I just apply this over whats left of it and it seems to prolong the nude color just a bit. Don't get me wrong, this cannot take the place of a lipstick if you want pigmentation, but it is nice for in between and lazy days.

At $4.99 or cheaper if you find it on sale, I think this is a great deal! I got mine on sale at Fred Meyer for BOGO 1/2 off, then used two $1 off coupons (one on each.) I ended up only paying about $5.50 for both, so after using my coupons it was almost BOGO Free. Great deal! :)
(In case you were wondering, I got the $1 off coupons from a tear pad on a Maybelline display.)

FOTD: Charming Cockatoo's Gaze

Here is a nice, soft look I did using the L'Oreal Project Runway Colors Take Flight quad in Cockatoo's Gaze. I really love the combination of colors in this, it is not a pairing I would have thought of on my own. The soft peachy pink and blues look great together. As I mentioned in my swatch post for this quad, the shimmery light pink shade is glittery and has fallout. For this reason, I didn't use it in my look. I did use the other three colors though in the quad though. Check out the close ups below.  (I don't know why, but eyeshadows always look much lighter in my photos. The colors are a little darker in person.)

For reference I have numbered the colors in the quad that I used.
Here is what I did:

  1. Apply primer over your lids. I used UDPP in Eden.
  2. Using a flat, stiff brush such as the ELF $1 eyeshadow brush, pat the peachy shade #1 all over lid.
  3. Using a dome brush such as the Target Up & Up brand crease brush, blend the silvery blue shade #2 into the crease and outer corner.
  4. Using that same dome brush (wipe off the color well) apply a light shade to the inner corner and brow bone to highlight. I used Wet n Wild Color Icon single in Brulee.
  5. Line your eyes with a black eyeliner. I used Bare Minerals Big & Bright Eyeliner in Intense Black.
  6. Using a small flat brush, smudge the dark blue shade #3 along the eyeliner and build it up a little on the outer corner of the eye. Sort of a smudgey winged out look. (I go back and forth between the small BE tapered eyeshadow brush, small angled brush and the small smudge brush from the ELF studio line.)
  7. Apply your favorite mascara, mine is Buxom Lash in Blackest Black.
  8. Apply blush, highlighter and bronzer as you normally would. I was in a bit of a hurry this day and only used blush. The blush I used is Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso.
  9. Apply a nude lipstick. (I always use a lip balm under lipstick, but that is up to you.) The lipstick I used in the above look is L'Oreal Sultry Raven's Pout from the Colors Take Flight collection.
  10. I also filled in my eyebrows a bit with the Milani Brow Fix Brow Kit in Light. I use shade Brow1 in this kit, the light shade. (You of course don't have to fill in your brows, but I wanted to let you know what I used for mine just in case!)
Hope you enjoyed my look and try it out for yourself! As I mentioned above, the flash on the camera really washes out the color in my photos, it is definitely a little darker in real life. A very pretty combination with peaches and blues!  :)

NOTD: L'Oreal Project Runway Cockatoo's Mystery

This is L'Oreal Project Runway Colors Take Flight nail polish in Cockatoo's Mystery. As I mentioned previously, I didn't think I would like this color as much as I do. I actually love it now that I see it on my nails. It is a really pretty lavender gray shade. There is no glitter or shimmer in it. I applied it over Ulta brand base coat and used Seche Vite top coat. I used two coats of color to achieve the opacity you see. The first coat went on a little uneven, but I think it might be the Ulta base coat I used. As you can see, with the second coat it was completely evened out and looking good! This photo show the nail polish pretty true to color, maybe just a touch lighter than in real life. So pretty! :)

Swatched: L'Oreal Project Runway Colors Take Flight Nail Polishes

I tried to pick nail polishes from this collection that I knew I didn't already have a similar color to. These are the three I ended up with. Originally I was really interested in Cockatoo's Wisdom, the darker of the two for that part of the collection. It is a warmer slightly darker color than Cockatoo's Mystery shown above. The more I looked at it, the more it reminded me of Slick Slate from Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri nail polish line. I went and found a bottle of that in the store and compared them side by side. They look nearly identical in the bottle. They may go on a little different, but to me they were a close enough match that I didn't need both. The other one I liked but didn't end up getting was Raven's Dream, a pale pink color. I just figured I probably have enough different shades of pink, and I know I have several light pinks from Sally Hansen. So here are the three I did end up getting: Raven's Strength, Owl's Night and Cockatoo's Mystery. Here are close up shots from several angles.

In the three images above, the top one looks the most true to color to me. But as you can see in the additional photos, they all can look a little different depending on the angle and lighting. Raven's Strength is a dark gray with a silvery shimmer to it in the bottle, but you don't see much of the shimmer once it is swatched. It does appear to have a little micro glitter in it but it is hard to notice. Owl's Night looks alike an almost purpley dark gray and has multi colors of gold micro glitter in it. At certain angles it looks completely gold because of all the glitter. The bottom photo above shows a good example of this. Cockatoo's Mystery is a medium lavender grayish shade. Here are swatches on plain white paper. Again, there are different lighting and angles in each.

I actually really like Cockatoo's Mystery, more than I thought I would. I painted my nails with it yesterday and I can't stop admiring the color. I actually thought of looking for another bottle of it in case I run out of this one. It does go on a little sheer, but it only took two coats for me to get good coverage.

Cockatoo's Mystery NOTD

Overall, at $4.99 each or cheaper if you have coupons or can get them on sale, I think these are a good product. I would recommend them if you love the colors and don't already have something similar. Several of the colors are quite dupable, but there are definitely some unique shades.

Swatched: L'Oreal Project Runway Colors Take Flight Eyeshadow Quads

As I mentioned a previous post, I only got two of the eyeshadow quads from this limited edition collection. I decided not to get Watchful Owl's Gaze and Audacious Amazon's Gaze because I already have similar colors in different eyeshadow brands. The two I did purchase are Sultry Raven's Gaze and Charming Cockatoo's Gaze. I am loving the color combinations in both of these. Check them out below. (Click to enlarge!)

Charming Cockatoo's Gaze contains a light peach, light shimmery pink, silvery blue and dark gray blue shades. The light peach, silvery blue and dark gray blue all swatched very smoothly and with nice pigmentation. They look a little light in my swatch photo, but that is without using any primer or base of any kind. Of course over a base or primer these will look far more pigmented. That shimmery pink has glitter in it which creates fallout and an uneven texture. After swatching it, I probably will just avoid that shade. I think the other three shades will still look really nice together without the added shimmer and glitter.

Sultry Raven's Gaze includes a dark brownish black, a bright silver, a dark purple and a black with shimmer. All of these shades swatched smoothly. The pigmentation of the dark brownish black and the silver is really good but the purple and black lacked a little. I included two swatch photos above. The top photo is a normal swatch and the bottom is with the colors built up a little more. The dark purple shows up a little reddish on my skin tone, but how that looks on you will obviously depend on yours.

Both of these quads have the limited edition Project Runway packaging and cost $8.99 regular price. I was able to get them on sale at 30% off at my local Bartell Drugs. I have seen these at Fred Meyer, Bartell Drugs and Walgreens near me (Pacific Northwest) but have heard that the official release date is in October. If they are not out near you yet, keep looking! :)

L'Oreal Project Runway Colors Take Flight

Here is what I ended up purchasing from this collection. Initially, I just got the Owl's Night nail polish and the Sultry Raven's Pout lipstick. Then I decided I did want some of the eyeshadow quads, so I purchased both of those as well as the Charming Cockatoo's Pout lipstick and the Sultry Raven's Blush. I did end up going back one more time to get Raven's Strength and Cockatoo's Mystery nail polished. This is it for me with this collection. I talked myself out of the other two eyeshadow quads, because I'm pretty sure I have more than enough shades of gold eyeshadow last me this lifetime. The Audacious Amazon's Gaze quad just didn't wow me, and I feel like I have similar colors in some of my Wet n Wild trios. Between Fred Meyer and Bartell Drugs, I managed to get everything on sale at either BOGO 50% off or 30% off overall.
Swatches for the lipsticks I got are already posted, and I will link them below. As I finish swatches of everything else I will add those links to this post also. I also took photos of the look cards that were on the displays. I got one of each look card even though I didn't end up getting items from all four parts of the collection. If you are unable to find this collection or items from it that you would like, you can always use the look cards to recreate the look with makeup you have. (Remember, it isn't supposed to be in stores until October, so there is still time if you haven't seen it yet!) Here are the look cards, front and back. (Click to enlarge!) Swatched: L'Oreal Project Runway Colors Take Flight Lipsticks

These two lipsticks are from the Project Runway Colors Take Flight Collection from L'Oreal. The collection has four parts and each was inspired by a bird. The four different birds are The Audacious Amazon (Parrot), The Watchful Owl, The Sultry Raven and The Charming Cockatoo. Each part of the collection includes 2 shades of nail polish, a blush, an eyeshadow quad and a lipstick. The prices range from $4.99 for the nail polish to $9.99 for the blush.
swatches are on clean, bare skin.
Sultry Raven's Pout is a pretty nude lipstick and I had to have it as soon as I saw it. I am always looking for that perfect nude lipstick. This is a really great one. It just might be my perfect nude! Charming Cockatoo's Pout intrigued me and I decided to take a chance on it. It looks almost black in the tube, which scared me a little. I really liked the way it looked in the promo photo on the display, so I got it and hoped it would go on sheer. It did of course, and it turns out I love the shade. I think both of these are very wearable, versatile colors. Raven's Pout went on smooth, creamy and evenly. Cockatoo's Pout was pretty creamy but went on just a little uneven, probably because it is more sheer. Nothing a little blending with your finger cant fix!
Here are some swatches on my lips. The first photo is my lips with just plain old chapstick. The other two are a layer of chapstick with the lipsticks on top.
See how much Cockatoo's Pout sheered out?
Many items from the collection grabbed my attention. I have a couple other things I will post photos of soon, and I am trying to resist the temptation to go back and buy more!
This collection is supposedly going to be released in October, but I have already seen it at many of my local drugstores. The display is up as several Walgreens, a Bartell Drugs and Fred Meyer near me. If you are looking for part of this collection and you live in the Pacific Northwest, you may want to check those stores soon. If you are able to go to Bartell Drugs, that is your best bet because L'Oreal is 30% off this week. You can also get a few $1 Off L'Oreal coupons at the L'Oreal website Here. You are able to do several different mini surveys to get multiple coupons. (The surveys just ask about your preferences and skintype, etc. to make recommendations for you.)

My new nail polish storage...

My nail polish collection has lived many places over the last so many years, most of them were plastic storage containers of some sort. Now they have a pretty little shelf to call home, thanks to TJ Maxx. I paid $12.99 for this and the tag says regular price would have been $20.
The amount of nail polish it can hold will vary depending on the sizes of the bottles. In my photo, there are 72 assorted polishes from Sinful Colors, Wet n Wild, Revlon, L'Oreal, Essence, Sally Hansen, Milani, Ulta, OPI and LA Splash. As you can see, I have sorted them by color. There is no more room for additional polishes with what I currently have on the shelves, so if (when... lol) I purchase more nail polishes, I'll have to swap a few out.
This shelf would also work great for MAC Pigments if you have a bunch of them. It could work for lipsticks if you wanted them all standing on the shelves or eyeshadow singles.  I think there are many uses for this little shelf.
The brand listed on the tag is "Domain." I have never heard of this brand so I Googled it. I couldn't find a website or any information, so definitely check your local TJ Maxx if you are interested. Mine had a few of these. Good luck and happy organizing!

Best Deals of the Week

I can pretty much guarantee you that if you walk into any drugstore, at least one brand of the cosmetics they sell will be BOGO 1/2 Off. Personally, I'm kinda over the BOGO 1/2 Off, because it really isn't that great of a deal anyway. If you average it out, its only 25% off. You can almost always get a better deal by waiting a couple weeks and watching the ads. That being said and due to the fact that it is already almost halfway to the next weekly ad, here are the best deals that I have found this week.

Bartell Drugs:
Revlon 40% Off  Full Line  (Revlon Beauty Tools 30% off)
Wet n Wild BOGO Free!  Full Line

Fred Meyer:
I did check Fred Meyer's online ad and there were no cosmetic related sales published. I will have to go in and check because I know they tend to have many unadvertised sales and coupons. I will report back with my findings. :)

Rite Aid:
Revlon 40% Off eye cosmetics

Maybelline 40% Off foundation, blush, concealer, powder, eye and lip cosmetics
Wet n Wild $0.99 Sale (all regularly priced $1.99 Wet n Wild on sale for $0.99)

At my local Walgreens, the $0.99 Wet n Wild sale included the 2 packs of Wet n Wild Nail Color. These are the sets that have one colored polish and one clear top coat, they are regularly $1.99. For $0.99 you can get 2 Wet n Wild nail polishes! :)

My apologies for the lack of posting lately...

My life has been a little hectic lately, so I apologize for the lack of posts over the past couple weeks. I have been trying to get everything in order for school, which for me starts in about a 2 weeks. Nothing like waiting until the last minute to find out you have additional paperwork to file for financial aid, right? Lol. Besides that I have been working more and we had a big camping trip planned for Labor Day weekend, so there was of course all the packing, and meal planning and shopping for that.

The good news is that in those few weeks I have been using some of the makeup products I have purchased lately, so I feel like I can give a pretty accurate review of some of the items now. I definitely have a few new favorites that I have discovered in the past month, so even though it is almost a week into September now, I am going to post a favorites for the month of August.

I was just looking through the weekly ads from this past Sunday and noticed a few good deals there too. (Not as many as I was hoping actually, but a few really good ones!) I will do a brief sales post for those of you who are interested.

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day, and keep an eye out later today for the above mentioned posts. :)
