Wet n Wild: The Gilded Age

I don't know if I have said this enough, but I LOVE gold eyeshadow. Especially for summer. The Gilded Age is a new Color Icon Trio from Wet n Wild. It contains 3 really pretty gold and bronze colors, all are very shimmery. It is part of their summer collection. Usually the Color Icon Trios are in black packaging but this is in a bronze colored package.

I really like this trio. All three eyeshadows were well pigmented and had a good texture. If you have not tried any of the Wet n Wild trios before, I have several and really like most of them. Occasionally there has been a color or two that I didn't like due to lack of pigmentation or chalky texture. For the most part these are a great buy though, especially since they are so inexpensive. I think there are 12 different trios in the regular collection plus the limited edition trios (like this) they add throughout the year.

I found mine at Walgreens in a summer display with a couple new bronzers. I have also seen it at Fred Meyer. It retails for $2.99 unless you can find it on sale somewhere. Note: Wet n Wild is buy 2 get 1 Free at Fred Meyer this week. (See more sales here.)

I can't wait to wear these colors! I think I will use them tomorrow...   :)

MORE ELF Mineral Eyeshadows!!

Hey everyone! A week or so ago ELF had a coupon code to get 10 free mineral eyeshadows with a $25 purchase. I decided to order a couple of things and use the code. I already have many of their mineral eyeshadows and really like them. See them here! so I ordered a bunch of colors I didn't have. (I think at this point I have all of them except maybe 2.)

The 10 new ones I got are Glamorous, Girly, Sweet, Temptress (matte), Natural, Trendy, Sassy, Confident, Wild and Golden. As I mentioned before in a previous post about ELF, it can be difficult to tell what color the products will actually be when you get them. Their online swatches are not very realistic. As you will see, neither are the swatches on the boxes for these eyeshadows. Going by photos and swatches of the actual product is the best way to go if you are trying to decide what colors you would like. Here are the bottom views of my new colors and their boxes.
As you can see, I got mostly neutrals this time. The last time I ordered ELF mineral shadows I got all the bright colors so these were the best options left that I did not have. The quality, pigmentation and texture of these is the same as the others I have: good. There are not many matte shades in ELF's mineral eyeshadow line, but Temptress is one of the few. I had one other matte shade in my last ELF mineral order, I believe it was Innocent. Partier is also a matte shade, but I do not own that one. Most of these have a really pretty shimmer to them. A few even have some glitter, but nothing too much. Check out the swatches.
I think my favorites from this bunch are Sweet, Natural, Trendy, Confident and Golden. In case you were wondering, my favorites from the colors I already had are Socialite, Celebrity and Innocent. I like to use those 3 together. These mineral shadows are very comparable to my Bare Minerals eyeshadows. I think they are great quality and you can't beat the price! I would recommend these to anyone, I think everyone could find a couple colors they like.
These are really inexpensive at $3 each regular price, but ELF often has coupon codes to save 50% or other great deals. So if you don't mind waiting you could save a few extra bucks. You can also check out your local Target or K-mart. The stores by me carry some ELF products but not a lot of minerals. Occasionally there are some mineral eyeshadow sets though. Call or check the store near you if you are interested because their stock could vary by region.  :)

A Tale of Many Teals

I have been really into teal lately. I can't stop buying teal eyeshadows and I absolutely love teal eyeliner. I have collected quite a few different teals now from many brands, so I thought I would swatch them all together and see if there are any dupes. MAC Shimmermoss is one of the first teal eyeshadows I bought and I actually got it kinda recently. I found it at the Cosmetic Company Outlet near my house about 4 months ago. I know finding dupes of MAC eyeshadows are popular so I am basing all my other teals off of Shimmermoss. I actually went to Ulta today to buy one of their brand of eyeshadows that is supposed to be a dupe, and I was surprised at how far off it was. I don't think it is even close! Take a look...

As always, all swatches are swiped on my bare arm with my finger.
The two supposed dupes for Shimmermoss that I found online are NYX Jungle Green and Ulta Luna. Unfortunately I don't have NYX Jungle Green to compare. NYX Ocean is kinda close but that is supposed to be a dupe for MAC Parrot. In my opinioin, Ulta Luna is so different! It makes me wonder if they changed the formula or something, I just don't see how people could think it is a close match to Shimmermoss. Shimmermoss is much more green with a sort of iridescent blue shimmer. Luna isn't as green and has a bit of a golden shimmer to it. Ulta Deep Sea is compared above and is also supposed to be a dupe for MAC Parrot. I think this one looks closer to Shimmermoss than Luna but I still wouldn't call it a dupe. Deep Sea is not as pigmented as Shimmermoss, but if you build it up it looks close, a touch darker and more golden. The others that I thought were close matches are Bare Minerals Exotic Tara and NYX Turquoise Pearl Pigment. NYX Turquoise Pearl is a little darker and more green. Exotic Tara looks like the best match to me of the shadows I have, at least in person. It is not as pigmented, so again you have to build it up a bit.  I also thought the MAC Partylicious Pigment was kind of close, though it is a little darker and lacks the iridescent shimmer that Shimmermoss has. It looks a touch more blue as well. Below are the swatches I thought were closest.

So this is my collection of teals! (So far... I'm sure more will find their way into my shopping bag in the future...)  I hope this has helped in some way. If nothing else, hopefully you have discovered a shade of teal that you might like to try out! I figure that besides testing for possible dupes, it is also nice to have a bunch of swatches from the same color group in case anyone is trying to find one of them. For those of you interested in any of these colors, I will list a few of my personal favorites. As eyeliner (over a teal pencil liner) I have been using Exotic Tara often and MAC Surf USA a few times now since I got it. (Surf USA is part of the newest MAC Collection, Surf Baby. It came out last week. Click Here to see the other Surf Baby items I got.) NYX Ocean and Turquoise Pearl are probably the next most used. Many of these are still fairly new and I have not had the opportunity to play with them much. The Milani Baked eyeshadow in Teal the Truth actually surprised me, this was the first time I had opened and swatched it. You may remember my review of the Milani eyeshadows several weeks ago (Click Here to read it now!) and how disappointed I was in their pigmentation. Teal the Truth seemed better than the others though, so I look forward to playing with it.

Your feedback is welcome! If you liked this post please let me know, I would be happy to do something similar for another color group. Let me know what you want to see! Thanks for looking! :)

Buxom Stay There Eyeshadow Palette

This is not your typical palette. When I think of a palette, a cardboard or plastic case with multiple slots filled with strips of shimmery eyeshadows (and most likely a mirror and applicator) comes to mind. This is different. Meet the Buxom Stay There Palette.

The patent leather case you see above contains 4 full size jars of Buxom Stay There eyeshadow, 3 of the colors are exclusive to this set. I love this little zip case. If you take out the foam separator inside then you can fit the 4 Stay There shadows with a some room to spare. Or just fill it with one or two Stay There shadows and your other favorite products. I like to bring a few things with me in my purse, so I think this will be a perfect size for that.
Above is a shot of the box with some of the panels of the box around it. The strip on the top shows the colors included and has icons of the dogs they are named after. On the right side is one of the side panels on the box, showing some of the claims of their product. The bottom portion of the above photo has the english description from the back of the box. All the colors in the Buxom Stay There eyeshadows are named after dog breeds. At first I thought it was kind of weird to associate girls and makeup with dogs. Then I read that Buxom donates to Canine Companions, an orginazation that provides companion dogs to people with disabilities. So it is definitely for a good cause!
The color of these is really pretty. Mutt is part of the permanent line of Stay There Shadows, but the other three are exclusive to this palette. The texture of these is like nothing I have ever felt. I would say it is kind of like the Maybelline Mousse products, but more fluffy and airy. (And definitely more pigmented, at least based on the one Maybelline Mousse eyeshadow I have used in the past.) They feel slightly cool to the touch and sort of bounce back a little when you swipe your finger in it. The box says to Pet them and Love them, I have to agree. The wear of these is alright. The color stays just fine but I couldn't get them not to crease. I tried them alone, with primer and with primer then set with translucent powder. The box says that 90% of women claimed they didn't crease so maybe I am just one of the other 10%. The box also says they are waterproof, but I have not put that to the test yet. I do love them for the colors and texture, but I am not sure I would buy any more of them. They will make a great eyeshadow base for me though. Since they are full size, and a good selection of colors I think they will last quite awhile.

This set is exclusive to Sephora and retails for $42. The single Stay There eyeshadows are $18, so this is an excellent deal if you like the colors. Get it here!

MAC Surf Baby Swatches

Is anyone else as excited about the packaging on this collection as I am? I LOVE it. It is so cute! I only got 5 things though there is more I would have liked if I could spare the extra money. MAC is a bit on the expensive side for me, so this was a splurge! But I love it. In case I didn't already tell you. :)
I decided to get 2 lipsticks, 2 eyeshadows and an eyeliner from the Surf Baby collection. I am loving teal eyeliners and shadows lately so naturally I had to get the Blue Noon Powerpoint liner and the Surf USA eyeshadow. The other eyeshadow I got is Short Shorts, which is a really pretty off white with a hint of iridescent shimmer. I actually think of the color of sunscreen when I see it, perhaps that would have been a more appropriate name? The lipsticks I got are Bust Out! and Hibiscus. Bust Out! is a sheer purple color and Hibiscus is a bright coral. Below are close ups and swatches for all.

I can't wait to play with these and find some color combinations I like. I am wearing the Bust Out! lipstick today, I put it on as soon as I took these pictures. (I always make myself wait to use new makeup until I can take pictures of it for the blog!) I had already done my eye makeup for the day otherwise I would have tried the eyeshadows and liner as well. I will try to come up with a couple good looks and post pictures and instructions for you.

Thanks for looking! :)

Mac Surf Baby Sneak Peek!

I picked up a few things at the MAC store today, so here is a sneak peek at my Surf Baby goodies! I am so excited to get them home and play with them! (Side note: pretty cool that I was able to watermark the picture when posting from my phone, huh?)
Like I mentioned, most of the items are from Surf Baby, but there is an extra eyeshadow from the regular line that I had to have. I absolutely love the theme of the Surf Baby collection, everything looks like a surf board and is accented with hibiscus flowers. So cute!
I will post swatches and better pictures for you all tomorrow! So be sure to check back!

Physicians Formula at Rite Aid

Waikiki Strip & Vegas Strip by Physicians Formula
I was just at my local Rite Aid where they have Physicians Formula on sale for BOGO 1/2 off. I picked up two different Shimmer Strips Bronzers in Waikiki Strip and Vegas Strip. Each one had an additional coupon on it, one for $5 off and one for $4 off. I was able to use the BOGO deal as well as the two sticker coupons on the packages and paid a total of $12.09 for both of these! At my Rite Aid they are $12.95 each regular price. I paid less than the regular cost of one of these and got both! Score!

ELF Clearance at Target

ELF is super inexpensive as it is, and I have loved their products so far. So when I saw these palettes on clearance at Target the other day, I had to get them! Regular price they were $5 each but at my Target these were on clearance for 30% off. I got them for $3.48 each. Besides the two palettes above, I got the Bestsellers Collection too (photo below.) It was the same price, $5 originally but $3.48 on clearance. Also on clearance were some sets with 4 duo eyeshadows that I think came with brushes. There were a ton of the Everyday Basics Palettes (See photo here) that I had bought awhile back.
The Bestsellers Collection comes with eyelash curlers, a black mascara, a black liquid eyeliner, an eyeshadow brush and a trio of shimmery neutral eyeshadows. The only item I have played around with so far is the liquid eyeliner, and honestly I wasn't a fan. The consistency wasn't right, it seemed like it was too thin. I did really like the applicator so it is too bad the actual liner liquid was no good. The applicator is a felt tip as opposed to a brush, so for me that would be much better. I am no good with the thin brushes on most liquid eyeliners!! I already have some of the ELF makeup brushes and love them, so I know I will use the brush that came with this. It has a black handle like their studio line brushes, but it doesn't say if it is from the studio line or not. I am sure I will use the eyelash curlers, those seem to be just fine. I have not used the eyeshadow yet but I do love neutrals! Even without using the liquid liner, I still feel this was a great deal for me.
Each of the Beauty Books have 12 eyeshadows, a black eyeliner, a sponge applicator and instructions for a look. I got the Bright Eye (left) and the Smoky Eye (right) Beauty Books. I believe there may have been a third Beauty Book but these were the two they had left at my Target. I have not yet used these but I will post swatches in the next couple of days.

In the mean time, I suggest checking your local Target if you are interested in these. I looked on the Target website and they do still have these but at regular price. On the ELF website, I couldn't find the exact Bestsellers Collection that I got but the Eyes Get the Look Vol. 1 seems really close and is $5. The Beauty Books are available for $5 also. Don't forget to use a coupon code! Hopefully you can find them on clearance in store! Good luck!

Sephora 500 Point Perk: Too Faced Palette!

I have been saving my points from my Sephora Beauty Insiders card for awhile now waiting for something good to come along. I usually miss it when it is a good item so I am glad I was paying enough attention this time. When I saw that this Too Faced palette was the new 500 point perk, I decided it was time to trade in some of my points. I have not used the Too Faced Shadow Insurance before or any of their eyeshadows, so for me this is a perfect opportunity to try some new products. (Click Here to sign up for Sephora's Beauty Insider program if you are not already a member!)
The Too Faced Eye Love palette is basically a sample palette with 2 eyeshadows and instructions for a look from each of the 4 Too Faced eye palettes. Each of their regular palettes come with 9 eyeshadows and retail for $35. This palette will cost you 500 points from your beauty bank at Sephora. It also comes with a mini Too Faced Shadow Insurance. It does not include an applicator, but that is just fine with me. (I probably wouldn't use it anyway!)
What you'll find inside!
All of the swatches below were applied with my finger to my clean, bare arm. They all have a really nice texture and there is a good mix of finishes. Heaven, Smolder and Like a Virgin are all matte, the rest have shimmer. Based on the swatches, I love Push-Up, Honeymoon and Ever After. (There I go with those neutrals again!) I also really liked Satin Sheets and Like a Virgin. Heaven almost completely disappears on my skin, but I think it would work great as a highlight color. I didn't like Silver Spoon as much as I thought I was going to, I feel like it is just a little too bright metallic silver for my taste. Smolder goes on more sheer than I thought it would. I'm not sure if I will use it much though, I don't use black eyeshadow a whole lot except to line. I have not worn any of them yet, so I can't really review their staying power but I will let you know when I do.
The swatches.
Overall, this is a nice selection of different colors from different palettes by Too Faced. If you have the points in your beauty bank and have been thinking of getting one of the full size palettes, this is probably a good one for you. You can try them this way and see what you like, and you may even find that this is enough and you don't need the full palette. Personally, I really liked the gold shade Honeymoon in the Romantic Eye palette, but I wasn't sure I wanted to spend $35 on the whole thing. With this, I got the shade I really wanted and a bunch more to try out. Win win situation!

If you have never redeemed your points before, it is super easy! If you have enough points in your beauty bank if will ask you during checkout if you would like to redeem them for one of the available rewards. There are 100 and 500 point rewards. This Too Faced palette is still available online for 500 points, and the current 100 point rewards are: Clean Cotton T-shirt Eau de Parfum 0.21oz, Dior Instant Eye Makeup Remover 0.5oz and Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Stick in Brooklyn 0.004oz. They change all the time though! When you decide what you want, you just have to checkmark that product during checkout and it will add it to the cart for you. It will actually give you the points from whatever is in your cart that you are about to purchase too. Don't forget to use a coupon code to get another free sample with your purchase, Click Here for some Sephora codes I found this week. You can also redeem points in store during check out at the register.

More ways to find out about sales & specials:
Facebook & Twitter: Follow your favorite makeup and beauty brands on Facebook and/or Twitter. You will find out about specials this way, often there are sales that may only be advertised through their FB or Twitter. For example, Too Faced has a Manic Monday deal posted every Monday on their FB. I believe these are only good for that one day, so you have to become a fan to know about them! I also follow cosmetics stores like Ulta and Sephora on FB as well as online only stores like Cherry Culture. Often this is the only way or at least the best way to find out first about sales and specials.
Email Newsletter: Most makeup brands and stores allow you to sign up for email updates on their website. You will find out about a lot of sales and deals this way too. I always join these.

That's all for now, I will update as I find more deals! :)

UD Rollergirl Palette LOTD

Hey there! I just couldn't wait to use my UD Rollergirl Palette after finally posting swatches of it last week. So, I used it the next day! Here are some pictures of my look. I used all the colors in the palette for this look, as well as the liner and lipgloss that came with it. I really like the way it turned out.

Here is what I did:
1. Apply UDPP in Eden allover lid up to the browbone.
2. Apply Too Faced First Base eyeshadow base on just the eyelid.
3. Using an eyeshadow brush, pat Suspect on the eyelid up to the crease.
4. Wipe off that brush and use it to apply Darkhorse in the outer 2/3 of the crease. Smoke it out a bit.
5. Using a blending brush, apply Verve to the inner corner and browbone, blending into Darkhorse.
6. Wipe off the blending brush and use it to apply Woodstock just in the outer crease. Blend well.
7. Apply Whiskey 24/7 eyeliner and wing it out. I smudged the wing part a bit to soften it.
8. Using a flat or small eyeshadow brush, apply a thin line of Suspect under the lower lashline.
9. Wipe off the brush and use it to apply a little Verve in the inner corner under the lower lashline.
10. Finish the look with your favorite mascara, I use Buxom Lash in Blackest Black.

I also wore the Crush Lip Junkie lipgloss that comes with the set and I used NYX Peach Blush on my cheeks. I did this makeup look last Thursday before going to work. I work at a restaurant and did a double that day, so around 8-9 hours. Here is what my makeup looked like after I got home from work:
As you can see, it is still quite in tact. The eyeshadow on my brow bone is pretty much gone, and my eyeliner seems to have creeped ever so slightly. But there is no noticeable creasing. We all know already how much UDPP rocks but I have to wonder if that Too Faced First Base is making any impact on the staying power. It can't hurt, right? :)

Note: All of the eyeshadow brushes I used were ELF. I used the Eyeshadow brush from the $1 line for steps 3,4,8 and 9. Then I used their studio Crease brush for steps 5 and 6. I have several of their studio line brushes and they work great. Their Crease brush is probably my favorite makeup brush.

To buy ELF brushes, check your local Target, Kmart or visit the ELF website. All the studio line brushes are super inexpensive, most are $3 and the Kabuki is $5. Try coupon code ECD21 will give you 50% off the Studio line purchases of $20 or more up to a $50 discount. I am not sure when it expires but I actually ordered some stuff last night and it worked. :)

NYX Sale is on! (Now with updates!)

The sale is on! 5pm to 5am PT everything on NYX is $1.20 each! They expect it to be slow due to high traffic but keep trying and remember you have 12 hours to shop! :)
Happy shopping fellow makeup addicts!

Update (6:43pm): They are still experiencing some issues due to the traffic, but they have extended the sale until noon tomorrow! (Monday 5-16)

Update (5/16 at 8:31am): So I was completely unable to use the website last night, but it seems to be working this morning. It is REALLY slow but I actually have some stuff in my cart. There is SO much stuff on sale for $1.20! I want to buy everything. But I cant, unfortunately I'm not independently wealthy. LOL
I did see that they are now going to offer a code for 50% off with free shipping once this sale is over, and that will be good for the rest of the week I believe. They should be posting the code after this sale ends at noon. :)

Update (5/16 at Noon): I have completely given up. It took hours just to get the pages to load enough to add stuff to my cart, then I was unable to check out. I have been hearing about a lot of people having the same problems. It is really disappointing, there are many things I would have liked to have. I am kinda over NYX at this point. I am sure I will continue to use the products I already have but I doubt I will buy much more from them. I just think it will sting a little to pay regular price for something I was supposed to be able to get for $1.20 during their sale. I also feel that as a company they have let us down. They should have known how big their sale was going to be and been more prepared.

Oh well, I'm over it. On to the ELF sale! :)

NYX 12th Anniversary Sale: Everything is $1.20!

I have been visiting family all day and had no internet. The sale was supposed to start at noon (Pacific time) but the site has apparently crashed and been down since then. I am sitting in a car waiting for a ferry and blogging from my phone, waiting for the news that the NYX website is back up! LOL

If you are following NYX on Facebook or Twitter, they seem to be updating us constantly on the status of the sale. It was supposed to be a 12 hour sale from noon to midnight, and they are to extend it post midnight now. There will still be a full 12 hours of shopping once the website is fixed. They are not offering free shipping or any kind of free gifts with your sale purchase because its such a good deal already. There is only going to be a limited quantity of each product available and you are limited to no more than two of a certain shade of a product.

Well, I am hoping the site is fixed soon and that I am able to buy some stuff using my phone! There are only a few things I want, so I hope it doesn't sell out too fast!

What are you hoping to buy from this NYX sale?

Best of luck to you if you are trying to shop the sale!

Swatched: UD Rollergirl Palette

Urban Decay Rollergirl Palette
When I first heard about this palette, I was so excited about it. It must have been almost 2 months ago and as soon as that release date hit I was in Sephora and Ulta frequently looking for it. I even checked Macy's a few times and no luck. Then, finally, a week ago I walked into Ulta and there it was! It is so wonderful to look for something for weeks and finally find it!

I think this is a really fun palette. I love the designs and photos on the package, and the gold shiny text on the front totally completes the 70's theme. For those of you who already own Urban Decay's Naked Palette, the shade Darkhorse is repeated in this palette. I do have the Naked Palette (love it!!) and decided to get this in large part for the hot pink and the lightest neutral shade. Oh and I also really wanted the mini Lip Junkie.

Fresh out of the package!
This palette comes with 4 shades of eyeshadow: Woodstock (bright pink with slight shimmer), Verve (pale oyster shimmer), Suspect (sheer sparkly beige), Darkhorse (bronze plum shimmer.) It also comes with a mini 24/7 eye pencil in Whiskey (rich brown) and a mini Lip Junkie lipgloss in Crush (sheer hot pink.) Each eyeshadow is 0.04oz which is just a bit smaller than the 0.05oz regular sized eyeshadows. The lipgloss is pretty mini at 0.12oz (a full size is 0.34) and the eye pencil is about 3/4 full size at 0.03oz.

The back of the box
I love that this palette came with the travel size Crush lipgloss instead of a mini Primer Potion.  I actually already own a full size Lip Junkie in Crush and I love it. It goes on somewhat sheer but there is a definite hint of hot pink. I love the minty fresh smell and taste of the lipgloss too. The texture of it is great, not to thin but not too sticky. A little goes a long way with these, no need to load it on your lips. These are great to use over lipstick or just on your bare lips. I almost always have one in my purse.

Mini Lip Junkie!
The eyeshadows are up to the normal Urban Decay standards of course. They are all well pigmented and have a nice texture. I will probably end up using the 3 neutrals the most, but I am definitely going to try out that hot pink Woodstock shade! Some ideas I have seen online are using the hot pink on your lid and the neutrals in your crease, or doing a smoky eye with the neutrals and using the hot pink as a liner. This palette has endless possibilities for fun looks. I think this would be good for anyone who loves neutrals and is looking to throw a bright color into the mix. Or just anyone who loves Urban Decay. :)
The Swatches...
This palette is available in store at Ulta in my area but I still haven't seen it at Sephora. It is also available on both of those websites, the Urban Decay website and on Macy's website. It is $32 at all these retailers.
